My brother and I are working on a project to replace an old industrial control panel, and we've got a question.
The old panel is from the '90s, and since all the parts are obsolete, we wants to build a new drop in replacement before something fails.
We're planning to use terminal blocks for most of the field wiring, which seems like the right way to do it. But for two specific components, a VFD and an SCR, the terminals are easily accessible.
My bro is wondering if it would be okay to land the field wiring directly on those components instead of running them through terminal blocks first.
He thinks it would make the panel's internal wiring a lot cleaner, but he's worried if there are any codes or general best practices that would make this a bad idea.
This project is for the US, but we're curious about Europe and Canada, too.
